Deep Dark Mummy Secret:

Now that Nellie is sleeping through the night (more often than not), I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, and hold the baby monitor close to my ear and listen to the delicious sounds of her sigh and gurgles. Nostalgia washes over me and I think back to those first weeks with her, when she slept by my side of the bed and I only half-slept...listening to her delicious sighing and private night giggling (she's always been a sleep giggler, even from the very first).

It makes my heart go soft and warm, knowing that my baby girl is so deliciously close, and that she's sleeping peacefully in her warm cozy bed.

I ask you, what sort of a nutter, besides a Mum would continue to wake up in the middle of the night to listen to her sleeping baby?

Another Milestone!

First a tooth, and now with the sitting up all by herself. I mean, going from laying down to sitting up...by herself!!!!! I can hardly stand it. My little girl....growing so quickly.

I was being all sentimental and remembering Dec 21 this time last year (http://poddled.blogspot.com/2004/12/well-its.html) and how cross I was that Nell was being uncooperative with confirming her Mummy's guess. It was about this time last year that I finally felt confident that I wasn't going to puke at any given moment.

How quickly time flies.

Oh, PS: Nell's going to be a calendar girl (see October):

Teef!

Guess which little chook is sporting the first needly edge of a tooth today? Sigh. She's been a punk all day, but this time, it seems there has been some progress for her troubles.

Don't you just want to eat her up?

Not only a genius, but generous too!

I am continually amazed when Nell shows me how much she knows/understands about the world around her. Since she can't communicate with words yet, I think I sometimes forget how much she understands and that she's always watching us.

She has been lifting her little arms to me for a couple months now, and it never fails to melt my heart. Mummy! Pick me up!!!!

But, further proof of her genius: sunday morning she was sitting on her playmat eating a wagon wheel. Ruby came downstairs for the morning to check out the scene, and approached Nell. Nell loves Ruby and so started gabbling aloud and flapping her little arms. Then she stopped and with a big grin on her face, offerred Ruby her wagon wheel. Ruby had a cursory lick of it and before I could intervene, Nell was having a nibble. When did my little chicken learn how to share food with her pup? She now offers me food when she's feeding herself or when she's having a snack. It makes my heart feel like bursting.

Gimme the zzzzzzs

This is what Nell looks like when she calls out demanding to be picked up/entertained etc. She still can't get herself around, so she just scream talks until someone comes to fetch her/figure out what she's after.

Nell is now sleeping through the night more often than not. What a difference it has made in my life!!!!

She has mastered the art of putting her dummy back in her mouth. It is the cutest thing to watch as it is an elaborate procedure of getting the dummy in her hand just right and then turning her hand upside down and sideways to get her dummy in. It kills me.

She is madly teething/gum sucking/gnashing the gums. Poor wee babe. She is developing quite an obsession for frozen peach in her munchkin.

She loves flapping magazines/pamphlets...especially when in her walker.

She loves these crazy snow pea crisps things...she likes to hold them in her mouth like tiny little green cigars. She also loves her wagon wheels. Also, still a huge fan of vegemite on toast. She is very keen on feeding herself....I adore watching it. So clever! And so funny.

I miss her like crazy during the day, so D sends me video emails of her. My best daily moment is getting in the car when they come to pick me up from the bus stop, and she realizes its me and goes all flappy and happy in her car seat! Hoorah!

Now that we are on our new schedule we are all happy with my new job. Thanks to my new paycheck we can afford to go buy some much needed winter gear as it has suddenly turned cold here. Currently I'm obsessed with getting Nell a pair of Nowa Li mocassins as no other shoes we've tired stay on her tootsies.

But even more than that, I'm so engaged at work that the day is gone before I even notice. It is nice to be interested in work again.

Hope everyone is warm and cozy!
